WW Week #6

Good Morning!

I bring you this weekly weigh-in from the warmth of my cozy bed. Since I have to be at work in just a few short hours, I'll get straight to the point:

Weekly Change: -4.2 pounds (whoa! best. week. ever.)
Overall Change: -13.9

Anddd bonus for this week: I stumbled across 2 (!!) articles that make me happy with my progress, like really really happy!

ARTICLE #1
I started taking body measurement over the summer, but then quickly forgot about it/couldn't remember where I put my tape measure (such is life).  BUT after reading this article by Dr. Oz, I let curiosity get the best of me.

From the article:
"A waist size over 35 inches in women and over 40 inches in men greatly increases the risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease and more. The ideal waist size for women is 32 ½ inches and 35 inches for men."
My waist size on May 20th, 2013: 37 inches (unhealthy)
My waist size today: 32.5 inches (ideal!)
Victoria's Secret model waist size: 23-24 inches (hah, I wish!)

Wahoo!

ARTICLE #2
Yesterday morning as I was catching up with the daily headlines*, I came across this article on Plan-B, also known as the morning after pill.

Here's a direct quote:
the drug is completely ineffective for women who weigh more than 176 pounds and begins to lose effectiveness in women who weigh more than 165 pounds.
So that means...
  • Me before weight watchers: Plan B is completely ineffective
  • Me at current weight: Plan B is completely effective (!!)

And just because I can totally see your face as you read this, I would like to clarify that I have never had cause to take this nor do I plan of needing it anytime in the near (or far) future.  Got it? Phew, okay glad that's cleared up...

The article goes on to give some statistics:
  • The average weight of American women 20 years and older is 166.2 pounds
  • The average weight of non-Hispanic black women aged 20 to 39 is 186 pounds
  • Well color me impressed because while I've been above average in both categories, I am now below the average {insert happy dance here}

*a big thank you to the Skimm for making me appear to be a well-educated young professional

Okay, I'm done. Sorry if this was obnoxious, I just had to share my excitement with someone.

WW Week #5

Just wanted to give you a quick update on the double double-u (WW).  Are these updates annoying?  They started as a way to stay accountable, but now I really enjoy writing them.  At the same time, I worry that they come off as shallow/self-important.  So just say the word and I'll "unsubscribe" you from boring weight updates :)

Anyway...

Today is the end of Week #5.  To be honest, I was NOT looking forward to this morning's weigh in because my sister and I stuffed our faces with SO. MUCH. FOOD. this weekend.  According to my points tracker, I consumed 85 points on Sunday alone. That's a lot!  To put it in perspective, I only get 28 points a day and 49 flex points per week.  So on Sunday I consumed more than my daily and weekly allowance combined. Thankfully I was able to redeem myself because today, November 20th 2013... drumroll please... the scale was down (!!)

WEEK #5 RESULTS: - 0.8 pounds :)
OVERALL RESULTS: -9.7 pounds

So there's that.  I'm really pleased with my progress.  However looking in the mirror, I can't see much of a difference yet.  My clothes seem to be the only indication that I am, in fact, losing weight (i.e. this morning I was able to wear my belt on a tighter loop).

  • I am 7.9 pounds away from my next goal weight
  • I am 11.7 pounds away from being in the "normal" weight range.  Right now I am classified as overweight - exactly in the middle of "normal" and "obese"
  • It's crazy to think that exactly 1 year ago I was considered obese (eek!).  But that is neither here nor there.
  • 5 weeks down, 7 weeks to go...

Onward and downward!

WW Week #4

Today marks the start of week #5. I'll pause to let that sink in... I'M ON WEEK FIVE!!! Whoa! When did that happen? I cannot remember the last time I followed through with something for this long (sad, but true). The best part? I'm still going strong.  In fact, I feel as if my real motivation is just getting started.  This was the first week that I managed to stay within my weekly points allowance.  I also managed to successfully get back on track after a very indulgent Sunday (think lobster rolls, apple cider doughnuts, and espresso martinis).  Anyway, I'll stop blabblering and get to the part you're probably waiting for... The results week numero four:

Weekly: -1.8 lbs (!!)
Overall: -8.9lbs
Achievements: As of this morning, I have officially lost 5% of my body weight.
Next Goal: 10% of my current weight.

Wish me luck!
